About the Art Shoes Artist

Everyone always asks how I came up with the idea to paint shoes.  It's not as
though I sit around looking for something do to or ways to be creative.  My creativity
has always been inspired by finding a solution to a problem.  This problem was...

After purchasing a very expensive pair of "art style shoes" from a major high-end
retailer I was thrilled to be traipsing around with Van Gogh on my feet.  My elation
soon turned to dismay when I found the art scuffed and wore off within the first
season of wearing!  Not only that, but I would see them all over town - arghhhh!

Having a full career in graphics, advertising, painting and communications I decided
I would just paint a pair myself - I had little to lose.  I loved the concept of art on my
feet, but hated spending the money on shoes that didn't even last a season!

As you can see my well worn Bass suede clogs still look fabulous.  The Picasso art
has actually worn better than the shoe!  This photo was taken a few days ago, after
wearing these clogs for over four years - out walking my dog through rocks & brush,
running errands and out for lunch!   I painted several pair for myself and even with
previous painting experience I learned much about painting on shoes through trial
and error.

The first time I wore them out in public I was not prepared for the reaction I got.  I
thought they were quite cool, but never even gave a thought to anyone else.
Everybody loved them!  I have never had so any comments from strangers in my life!

So naturally my Art shoes kind of evolved.  One of those "friends who told two friends,
who told two friends, who told two friends" kind of things.  I started selling them on
ebay after selling them locally and found that an amazing number of people were
interested in my Art Shoes and having their own pair.  They are so addicting!

My very first pair of painted shoes - and
they are still going strong!
This is my interpretation of Picasso's Girl Before
the Mirror.

My favorite comment came from one woman who
actually asked to buy them off my feet!  Fortunately,
they weren't her size as I am rather partial to this
pair.

As I have several pair now, these old favorites are
now my gardening & yard shoes.  Hey, you have to
be styling in the garden too!
